Two months? Has it really been that long? A lot has gone on in two months. Here are just a few things that happened here at the pancake palace that could have contributed to my absence around here...
I had a horrible allergic reaction to who knows what and was completely covered in hives for a couple of days. Nothing is more fun than being in the emergency room looking like a freak show and getting prednisone shoved down your throat. I should also mention that along with the hives I also had my lips swell up to gargantuan proportions. I kid you not when I say that I had a duck bill for a mouth. It really does wonders for your self esteem when you are disfigured for a couple of days.
On day two of hive and duck bill days I found my cat laying on the floor and hardly responding. Of course it had to be a Sunday and emergency animal hospitals aren't cheap. So $1500 of testing and buckets of tears later I had to have my sweet 10 yo kitty put down. What a seriously awful weekend.
Hmm.. what else... Well I got my first tire blow out. I would have appreciated having it happen in pretty much any other situation than in which it actually did. 90mph in the fast lane on the 5 freeway in Southern California is not where you want something like that to happen. That was also the day before I was leaving on vacation. Very inconvenient to say the least.
To make up for some of the previous stress I got to do this...
I had a seahorse hang on to my finger! I know it doesn't sound like a big deal but let me tell ya... pure magic. There is only one seahorse farm in the world and it in on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is run by an amazing couple and they have almost eliminated seahorses being taken out of the wild to support the pet trade. I highly recommend going to see these wonderful little creatures and learn more about the importance of what this place does.
Another big thrill was walking along the beach and seeing this...
I LOVE sea turtles! In fact one of the reasons I wanted to go to Hawaii was to see them in the wild. I tried to show this guy (or girl) the sea turtle tattoo on my back but I could tell he wasn't interested.
That trip was really interesting and I will sum it with one last picture and two words...
After having one day at home after the Hawaii trip I hopped a plane to good ol' Pullman, Washington. I had a great time with my best girlfriend for five days. I think I talked her 8 and 6 yo girls into letting me teach them how to knit next time I'm up there.
Knitting, what's that? l I haven't knit one darn thing this whole summer even though I was really thinking I would get the Summertime Tunic done before Hawaii. I still have it sitting in front of me so I will try to start it soon. Since it's mostly stockinette it will be good for working on while watching TV. Maybe it will get on the needles while I watch the start of The Two Coreys. My favorite movie of all time is Lost Boys so of course I have to watch this new reality TV train wreck. After seeing the ads for it I am sure glad I didn't get my 1987 dream of marrying Corey Haim. It's so sad when someone who was so cute turns into a toad.
And the latest time sucker is Ravelry. Oh how I love this site. I spend hours reading about the great projects, joining groups, thinking about how long it will take me to catalog my sock yarn stash, what a great place! So not only will I have to try to keep this blog more current but I will also be working on things there. Think positive thoughts.
