What can you get for $1,000?

Have you ever thought about just how much you can get for $1,000? How about...

40-45 skeins of indie dyed sock yarn

Weekend in Vegas (if you are within driving distance)

Low end Louis Vuitton bag

Five weeks of groceries (for my fam at least)

14 tanks of gas for The Ho (again.. it's all about me)

Decent 37" plasma TV

Did I mention a dreamy amount of indie dyed sock yarn?

Well do you want to know what I got for $1,000 yesterday?...

A crazy looking cat! Actually it's quite sad. Poor Mia has been on the sick side for a couple of weeks and went through a few tests yesterday that required her to try out a new look.  Last week she only had the shaved leg where they were putting the IV in.. but they really pulled out the big guns yesterday. And yes, she is overweight. That flabby shaved kitty tummy is just too ridiculous. So.. please send good thought her way. I'll find out tomorrow if she has liver cancer.

On another not so hot note...

Posh_kindness

It had so much promise.. but.. it's so big that it fit on the blocker without having to even stretch. Not what a person that lacks cankles wants in a sock. The pattern is Socks of Kindness. First of all.. great pattern! I really love it. The problem was the knitter. I was using Posh Emily which is said to be fingering weight but I am convinced that it's sport weight.. hence the ginormous sock. So off it goes to the hell where the Rhodonite Jaywalker currently resides. Obviously the Sock "Gods" are not pleased and are trying to get me to give up my love for sock knitting. While they didn't do that they certainly made me dislike it just a tad. Lacy scarf here I come. They say that scarves are the cool thing for 2008 so how do I say no. I'm thinking of doing another Misty Garden scarf from Scarf Style in this gorgeous Yarn Pirate BFL Wintergreen that I bought at The Loopy Ewe...

Wintergreen

I LOVE green and this yarn is just stunning. The picture doesn't do it justice. So let's just hope that I don't screw up the scarf like I have been with the socks lately. It will be nice to pull something out of my stash and use it. I think my $1,000 day at the vet will be slowing down my yarn purchases. Plus, I need to save all my dollars for.. are you ready?.. The Loopy Ewe Spring Fling!! I'm so excited that I got in. Is it wrong to bring an empty suitcase just for the loot I'll be bringing home?

So what could you get for $1,000?

*interesting Google search that landed someone here - Can you get salmonella from pancakes* Hmm.

UPDATE: NO CANCER!

Muuaahhh!

And you thought it couldn't get any worse...

Oh yeah.. it's Rock Band, baby!!  I will try not to torture my family and friends by trying out the mic but just wait until I get ahold of those drums! I wonder how fast I can morph into Sheila E?! Not only will I have sic drum skills but I'll be playing the hell out the cowbell too!

(And a big laugh on the person who found my blog yesterday by Googling 'shitter')

Time flies

My Guitar Hero enabler son turns 14 today. Wow, 14! It's hard to believe. So to celebrate I have baked, at his request, this masterpiece...

He didn't however request this craptastic frosting job. When he put in his order of.. not from a store, two layers, one chocolate, one vanilla, chocolate between the layers and white frosting on the outside.. he never dreamed I would try to do this. The frosting that sprays out of a can is hard to write with! I took my time.. no squirting it around all willy nilly! (It only looks that way) Honestly, it's the most time I've ever spent on a cake in my entire life. So happy birthday kiddo. Thank you for making me a mom!

My confession

Dear Knitting,(family, laundry, blog.. insert pretty much anything)

I know that I have been distant lately. You didn't do anything wrong.. wait, yes you did...

See these Jaywalkers that we lovingly worked on this week? Notice how they won't even begin to fit over my heel? So maybe it is you. Right now I think we're maybe just going through a rough patch. It's not uncommon in a relationship such as ours. I know that I have said some things to you lately that aren't kind. In fact, sometimes the four letter words come flying at you so fast I'm surprised that you continue to give me another chance.  Is this latest sock some sort of revenge on your part? I would like to think not but I do wonder.  When we are getting along really well it's an amazing partnership. The things we create together bring me joy, happiness and warmth...

I remember the day we finished this together right after Christmas. What a great day that was. There were so many smiles and posing in front of the mirror together. I will always remember it in my heart as one of the good times.

What I'm trying to say is.. I've found something new. I know, it hurts. It was so unexpected! And I want you to know that I never lied about it. When I said I was putting you down to go spend hours on Ravelry it was the truth. Sometimes though I did lie by omission. I didn't tell you that there were mornings when the second I woke up I had to run to my new love and didn't even think about you.. sitting in the basket all alone.. waiting for me to pick you up and give you the attention you needed. My new love is like a drug that I can't seem to quit. When we are together it's magical.. musical even. When I hold it in my hands I feel alive. Other people have even told us how great we are together even though it's sooo not my type. Some even stop and stare. Then there are the ones who tell us we rock together. That is a great feel good moment. And it's not that we don't stumble at times. I admit to already doing more than a few things wrong. Everyone has days when their timing is off or they feel a little off key. We don't let it get us down though. Our partnership never gets old. I know we've only been together three weeks but it feels like we have known each other for years. I've even had to battle others to keep our love alive but it's worth it. I know we've gone through the easy part and eventually it will get hard. I doubt I'll ever be an expert in this budding new relationship but I will try. This new love really means that much to me.

What I'm trying to say to you, Knitting, is that I still love you but I just need something more in my life right now. Something that makes me sing and act silly... not just sit on the couch. I know we'll eventually get back to a good place and spend more time together. And maybe this new relationship I have will burn out quickly. Just please don't turn your back on me while I explore where this new love can take me.. I have way too much money invested in you!!!

So until we sit down to knit and purl again... let me keep exploring my options with green, red, yellow, blue and orange on my exciting new love... Guitar Hero 3
